Long story short due to right arm issues I have a very difficult time manipulating a spinning rod now. I am a finesse fanatic and spend 90% of my time fishing 1/8 oz and 3/16 oz jigs, drop shots and ned rigs. I have tried the bait finesse route with SUF 701c and SUF 691c both worked great and have excellent sensitivity but I also fish tournaments and found that I would lose more fish than I liked (side note I lost a lot less fish on the 691 than I did on the 701). The 691 is now my ned rig rod. I then tried the DC 702c, also an excellent rod but didn’t quite have the sensitivity I expected (with the sierras I felt a lot more pickups than I do with the DC 702c) However, I lost almost no fish on the DC 702c and hook ups are still probably 98% of the bites I got. Now on to the DX 742c all I can say is my quest is now over! I paired this rod with a Daiwa PX 70BF to ensure I can cast the lightest weights adequate distance. Which it does, between this rod and the reel I can cast a 10th oz ned rig a reasonable distance and feel the bait the best you can with a ned rig. As stated above I am going to continue using the 691c for ned rigs and have settled on this as my dedicated tiny jig and drop shot rod. An 1/8 oz weight drop shot with 4.5-inch worm casts as good if not better than any of my spinning rods ever did. 1/8 oz jigs with TRD bugz trailer also casts just as well and far as the drop shot. I feel every pickup, have 100% hook up rate since purchasing, hooks are set so deep they can be a problem to get out, and I have not lost a single fish. I have pulled 2 fish over 4lbs out of cover and landed a 10.5 lb catfish yesterday (caught on a drop shot) with no problem and expect to never have an issue with larger fish! Bottom line, if you fish finesse and need a great baitcasting rod this is it. So much so that I may purchase a second one (having 2 of the same rods is something I have never done before) or I may get the DX 702c for drop shots and use the DX 742c for tiny jigs as Ilike having both rigged at all times.

I paired up my Champion Extreme 742C SH casting rod with an Aldeberan50. OMG it is the best combo ever.. I can throw a 1/16oz or even weightless worm a mile. The sensitivity is insane and setting the hook with this rod is so impressive. Plenty of backbone with an amazing sensitivity. I have found the perfect setup.. this is by far my new favorite number one go to. You won’t be sorry. Big Ed!

Incredible rod! Super sensitive, sweet tip but a with backbone. The best rod for plastic weightless like Yamamoto Ika or senko.

The perfect rod for finesse presentations with a casting reel. Super sensitive yet has enough backbone to handle bigger fish. I mainly use it for shaky heads but it works great for a drop shot also.

This rod was really surprising. I bought it as a finesse rod, and it had more power in the backbone than I expected. It fishes similar to the DX743SF and has become my light wire jig rod for finesse jigs in the 3/16-7/16oz range with light wire hooks like the Eakins Jig, Omega Jigs, finesse football jigs, etc. around docks and deep water brush piles. It has a great tip for skipping light jigs and pitching them to docks and cover while maintaining the backbone to set the hook on deeper docks and move fish out of brush piles. My other favorite bait on this rod is a shaky head. Anytime you are fishing light line on deep clear lakes, this is a must have rod to me.

I fish a beefed up drop shot a lot in Texas around stumps and trees, using 10-15 lb test and rigging the worm weedless Texas style on the hook, with 1/8 to 1/2 oz weights. Either pitching to shallow targets or casting it in deep water, the DX742 is super sensitive and so well balanced that it is easy to fish all day. Enough power to bring in big fish, yet enough tip to cast light rigs with baitcast reels and play good fish on lighter line.
