Bill Friggle –
I purchased this reel because I like my Dobyns rod so much. And the interviews I have seen with Mr. Dobyns always impressed me. I figured he would not put out a crappy reel. So I ordered one. Sadly, the first one I got was defective. I contacted customer service and they sent me a label to return it. It took almost a week and a half for me to get me new reel. FedEx is really slow anymore. The first one did not impress me at all. Reminded me of the cheap Runcl reels I got off of Amazon. But they felt even better at over half the price. But when I got the new one, it felt so much better. Maybe it was in my head but even the build quality seemed better on the new one. I have fished with it a few times. It is so smooth. I have had to adjust it differently than my other baitcasters because it is so smooth, it backlashes easily. But even with more tension on the adjustments, it still outcasts my other reels. Even my beloved Daiwa Tatula CT. I think the Daiwa is slightly better built. Or maybe it is my love for that reel and Daiwa’s that makes me think that. But all those extra bearings in the Maveric do make a difference. When I am ready for another reel I will consider the Maveric again.
