Bill Cantwell –
If you love throwing squarebills or lipless cranks then look no further. This rod has a great tip with plenty of power for any given situation. I throw squarebills/lipless cranks on this rod exclusively and have the confidence in knowing that my catch rate is much better than any rod ever used. If your tired of fish coming unbuttoned from not using the proper rod for your squarebill/lipless cranks then look no further.

This really is the most amazing rod I have every used in my entire life as an angler. The first time you pick it up, it feels like nothing you’ve ever held in your hand ever before. It’s so strong, and so versatile, you’ll need a dozen of them just because you won’t want to put it down and won’t be able to change lures fast enough. I use it for wakebaits, medium to shallow diving crankbaits, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, topwater baits, lipless cranks, basically you can use it to throw any moving bait. It’s the one rod you have to have in your arsenal.

By far my favorite cranking rod in the line-up because of its versatility. It’s my mainstay square bill crank bait rod but handles spinnerbaits, jerk baits and topwater baits just fine. It’s very light compared to other blended rods as well.

If, like me, the glass cranking sticks you’ve tried in the past have left you unsatisfied, you owe it to yourself to try this rod. What Dobyns has done with the 705CB Glass is reimagined what a glass crankbait rod could and should be. I swear they took all the things I didn’t like and just got rid of them. The great thing is, they made sure to keep all the good stuff. Where the old glass sticks were heavy & felt dead, this one is pretty sensitive (approaching graphite) and light. The fact that the (smaller) butt diameter lets them use a exposed blank through handle reelseat might help with the sensitivity too. Where the old sticks were sloppy, wet noodle soft, this one feels close to a ‘normal’ rod….until you load it with a fish. Once loaded, the forgiveness of glass comes into play. Got a fish skin hooked on a single hook? No problem, you’ll land the fish!
Although it will fish a larger range of weights, I especially like using it for 3/8oz – 5/8oz. Topwaters (poppers/walkers), squarebills, mid depth and larger ripbaits are my lures of choice. It will fish a wider range but those are my favorites.

If you fish crank baits…the 705cB Glass is a must have in your arsenal. My favorite technique is Balsa Square Bill fishing the 705 CB Glass is the perfect compliment to these baits. This is the rod that made me a Dobyns user. It’s light weight and balanced and one characteristic that is hard to find in a Glass Rod. But the most important features are the incredible action of the tip it never kills the bait and lets it work as designed. Many rods will be too stiff and not allow the bait to work as designed or too soft to get the proper hook-up…not the 705CB Glass. Once you get hooked up it’s got the proper backbone to wrestle any size fish back to the boat. Works great with small to large cranks from shallow divers to medium divers. If you crank this the most versatile rod and would be one of my Top 5 Must have Rods!

This is one of my favorite rods, hands down! I use it primarily for squarebills and lipless. I like the length for accuracy. It is the perfect size for putting your bait exactly where you want it to go. One of the biggest problems fishing with small crankbaits, is fish coming unbuttoned. I have way fewer lost fish with the 705CB! It is really well-balanced and handles fish perfectly.

This rod was my first introduction to Dobyns Rods and continues to be one of my favorites. I almost always have 3 with me. Mike Q hit a lot of the points I was going to make right on the head. Amazingly light weight for glass rod – it has the forgiveness of glass but the strength of graphite. Everything but the really large crankbaits is perfect choice. Use a lot for jerkbaits, but mostly now for larger sizes or if I want to work it really fast towards at end of that bite as temp approaches 60. Have even used for lighter spinnerbaits, light flipping, flukes, med poppers. Lots of uses – that ‘s why I take 3 with me.

Dobyns Glass rods are uniquely designed and will definitely change the way you feel about using Glass rods. They are light weight, sensitive and you can feel them load up for longer casts and better land ratios. I always recommend Dobyns Glass Series Rods to all of my customers as a must have to their rod line up!

Very well made rod. I couldn’t be happier. Very light and very sensitive. I bought this strictly for 3/8 crankbaits and it is really a pleasure to fish with. The best crankbait rod I have ever used. Thank you for making such a great rod!!

Having never used a glass rod for crankbaits before, I was eager to try one. I bought a 705CB Glass recently and I am very pleased. Haven’t had the chance to catch many fish on it yet; however, the glass is really nice to dampen the vibration of the baits I am fishing on it. I have tennis elbow and it really bothers me when fishing squarebills/colorado blade baits sometimes. This rod has dampened that, along with being a major upgrade from my last cranking rod. It throws baits a long way and could be used for many different applications. I will primarily use it for medium depth crankbaits, smaller spinnerbaits, and squarebills. So far I am very pleased with how the rod has performed with these baits.

Best open water trap rod I’ve ever used.
