I got the 7 &7,4 model at the same time because I couldn’t make up my mind and I’m glad I did. Thanks Dobyns for feeding my fishing obsession *sarcasm* !
If you’re on the fence, just get it. You won’t regret it. A little pricey, but worth every dollar. Dobyn’s offers a generous military discount, so it’s a huge win if you can get a piece of that.
I paired the 7′ version with the Curado BFS with 4lb mono (mainly to test). I was casting somewhere around 25yds with a 1/16 crankbait, but I think I can get more distance if I dial in the reel and get better line. The rod loads up well with 1/16 lures. Hooked up about a 2.5-3lb largemouth that ran about 5x’s and the rod felt like it can go a little more with regard to power. But it’s more about finesse than trying to muscle them in, right? This is my first go around with BFS, but I think it’s going to be a very fun way to fish. Thanks Dobyns for putting out this great product!
Only thing I would like to see is the rod offered with like a black EVA foam grip. Not that I dislike the cork grip. It’s just my stuff has to be color coordinated. Now I am forced to buy some cork handle grips for my reels. I would give it a 4.5 rating for that, but it doesn’t deserve to bumped down. :)
