    Evening,

I have fished with this rod for an entire season before writing this review. To baseline, I currently own 32 Dobyns rods. A few Fury’s, couple Sierras, two Kadens, four champ XPs. The rest are champ extremes and xtasy. The new material is a noticeable improvement over cork in the areas of feel, texture, comfort especially when the material is wet.. it has a tacky like feel which is a big improvement over cork.. to date the material has not shown any degradation in quality or “tackiness”. I fish in the northeast so these material has seen weather down into the 40’s and up into the 90’s.. when comparing to my champ extreme and xtasy rods I prefer that cork over this material just because of the very high quality cork in those lines.. since the reason for the test rods was due to higher cost of cork these days and challenge of obtaining quality cork material here is my recommendation.. keep cork on the champion extreme lines and xtasy. Move to this material for the champ xp line and down.. if Dobyns did this, I would have to really consider upgrading all of my rods that are not champ extreme and higher since I consider this new material that much of an improvement

Appreciate the opportunity to review and provide feedback

Great quality rod. Handles anything. The cork is different from the classic but in a good way. It is almost like how grippy the classic cork gets once it’s broken but right out of the box. Would definately buy again.

I’ve always loved the DC 735c blank and the new handle on the TST 735 is excellent imo. It has plenty of “tack” when wet and it looks good. I think if dobyns goes this route, they will still have a great quality product as they always have. I actually like this handle slightly better than my cork handle 735 although performance isn’t the reason. They both get the job done but I dig the aesthetic of the burl handle

Can anyone comment on the handle length for the 7’3” rods? Are they 14” or 15”
    Thank you!

    • dobynsrodsinc

Hi Jack, the handle on the 7’3″ full handle rods is 10.5 inches. The handle length on the split handle 7’3″ rods is 11 inches. Thank you for your question.

Great Rod…735 is applicable for many techniques.. sensitive, light and powerful.. Swirl Cork is comfortable and looks nice …Thumbs up… Fish -On !!!

  6. Benji

I have this rod and the 794.5 test cork rod and the cork on this rod is absolutely a better option. Multiple days of using and the cork isn’t missing any chunks, it feels great in hand, and looks pretty cool as well. I can’t compare the 734 or 736 test cork, but I can 100% say that this cork is a better more durable option than te 794.5 test cork.

A sharp looking rod! This Burl design really stands out and feels great. I put in a solid weekend fishing it. Look forward to having it in my hand some more.

Awesome! Love the DC 735C already and this new full handle design really adds a nice touch. Great rod , I highly recommend.

Exactly what I needed amd wanted. The 735 fits the way I like to fish. LOVE the Classic Burl look and feel. Can’t wait to buy more rods with this handle. Better than cork, EVA, or Winn. Slightly more ‘grippy’ than cork and much more sensitive than EVA.

Handle is soft in the hand, but still has good grip when wet. After a few months of hard kayak use, it looks like its going to hold up as well or better than cork.

Just got the TST 735C FH – Classic Burl (#TST 735C FH – Classic Burl). Looks and feels great. Living in Vermont I won’t get to use it till the spring as the waters are starting to ice over. Looking forward to having a dedicated frog rod for next year. This is my 6th Dobyns’s Rod I have purchased this year and all of them have been great.

I purchased the 735C FH Classic Burl handle. I have not gotten to use it much yet. It appears to be durable and is very comfortable. I like it, maybe a little bit bigger in diameter would be good for me.

Got the 735 with the new classic burl and have been fishing with it several weeks and I really like the new classic burl. It feels nice to the touch and fishes comfortable all day long. I think it’s a great style and It looks great !!!

Just got the TST 735C FH yesterday, I like the looks and feel of the new handle material, to me it looks better than plane ole cork. I haven’t got out on the lake yet to see how it holds up to a full day fishing and grip property when wet, but I don’t believe that will be an issue. Gary since getting quality cork is difficult this is the way to go, I have the “classic burl” but took a close look at your other options and I liked the looks of the “swirl” handle also. I will update again after fishing.
