I’d rate this as the ultimate micro jig and micro float rod and I’ve tried them all. The micro oscillations in the solid tip are amazing and felt through the butt section! I have the 7ft for the kayak but this is the size you want for cast-ability of 1/32 oz jigs from the bank or in streams. Solid through the mid to butt sections so doesn’t feel like a noodle. May purchase the 7’9 as well for high sticking floats in streams. Disclaimer: DO NOT fish with braid. If it wraps around the tip it will snap. 6lb mono backing with plenty of 2lb fluoro and 2500 size real will cast micro jigs quite far! Try JP’s marabou jig (sculpin olive / peach) 1/50 to 1/100oz with a piece of Sierra slammer trout worm under a micro size adjust-a-bubble. Action underwater was amazing with this rod! Trout loved it.

I’ve tried all the big names in the trout & panfish world and these new Dobyns STP rods are better. The have plenty of backbone for the occasional beast but the ultralight tip offers fantastic control & feel. I use the STP740 for anything around 1/8oz but I primarily use it with a 3/32oz jig head and a 3″ gulp minnow. Handles it great!!
