BOB SIMMONS –
I BOUGHT THIS ROD ABOUT 8 YEARS AGO BECAUSE MY PARTNER HAD ONE AND WAS OUTCASTING ME BY 30 TO 40 YARDS AND WAS BANGING THE BOTTOM IN 20 FT WITH 6XD’S ON 10# TEST —— HE ALSO HAD ME BY 10 MORE FISH — AND HE WAS IN THE BACK OF THE BOAT. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR ANOTHER ONE EVER SINCE.
Kyle Schauf –
There were several features that I was looking for in a deep crankbait (12-20′) rod and the 804CB meets or exceeds all of my expectations. Balance, Power/Action, and Length. Balance – Chunking heavy baits all day can be a chore, but the rod forward balance on this rod make it an easier task. Power/Action – this rod definitely lives up to its Medium Heavy power rating. When setting the hook, there is plenty of backbone to bury the big number 2 hooks of those deep divers and is still slow enough to keep the hooks buried when the a fish lunges near the boat. Length – an 8′ rod is perfect for a couple reason: distance and rod loading ability. A long rod gives you the ability to launch those deep, heavy crankbaits a long ways, but a long rod also takes up more line and will load up a rod faster when a fish hits.

Most of the pros and weekenders have gone to 8′ sticks for deep diving cranks. Got to this 8′ 804CB for lipless cranks or medium running cranks (Deep Little N, Series 5, Wiggle Wart, 1.5DD) and reap similar benefits. Long rods with crankbaits allow for longer casts, deeper running baits, and less lost fish. With 1/2 oz lipless cranks, you can throw them insanely far and this rod has the perfect blend of power to snap baits free from grass yet enough tip to play fish without ripping hooks free.
