The Scoop with 2016 BassMaster Classic competitor, John Proctor!

Wow! A dream come true! I am actually going to fish the 2016 Bassmaster Classic. I just returned from the Ouachita river in Monroe, LA from the BASS Nation Championship. I finished 6th overall and in 1st place in the Southern Division to punch my ticket to the Classic. I caught most of my fish on three setups:

1) 3/8 oz War Eagle spinnerbait and a Dobyns 703c Champion Series with 17lb. P-Line Fluorocarbon. The key was reeling slow; just enough to keep the blades turning. The rod made it easy; I could tell if the bait was touching the bottom or if a leaf or other debris was attached to the bait. The sensitivity was amazing!

2) 1/8 oz Texas rigged tube and a Dobyns 704c Champion Series with 17lb. P-Line Fluorocarbon. The key here was accurate pitches to isolated stumps and cypress trees.

3) Zoom WEC E1 Crankbait and a 685CB Champion Series with 15lb. P-Line Fluorocarbon. This rod was made for this bait! I had excellent control while making accurate casts. I only got a bite if the bait deflected off of a piece of wood and the rod had an excellent feel when deflecting off the wood.
